Final Writeup

On a wet and sodden Monday night, all teams battled it out for the final time this season. The Grand Finals were both closely contested and tight affairs.

In the Mens Competition, Epic came up against the Kangawallafoxes. The game had everything and came right down to the wire. In the end the Foxes prevailed 5-4 but Epic would count themselves unlucky as they blew a few opportunities early in the second half. However, it was a fantastic season from both teams and I expect they will again be front-runners in the next competition. The Foxes move onto the TRL Champion's League on October 9. This will be a battle of the best sides in Brisbane and Ipswich's representative - the Foxes. If you want to see some elite TRL, October 9 is a must!

In the Open Competition, SEQ came up against the Juggernauts. Both sides were probably not at their best in the greasy and wet conditions but the game still had plenty of highlights. Despite going down 7-5, the Juggernauts scored some exceptional tries through some clever kicking. However, kudos must be given to the SEQ side who really played as a team on the night. Everyone got stuck in and defensively, there were some great efforts - especially in the dying minutes when the game was still very much in the balance.

In terms of the Wildcard competition, Kyzza's Klowns came from the clouds to snatch it with a 5 try differential win over the Rams (9-4). They just pipped the Cheetahs and Ring-ins who both recorded solid wins with a 4 try differential.

Overall, it was a very encouraging season. To get 14 teams in our first ever season is a tremendous indication of the sporting culture of the Ipswich region. I am hoping to see all teams back again for season 2 which promises to be even bigger and better.

For details on next season, please contact me (Tom) on 0422 861 353. We are limited to 20 spots so there is a good chance spots may run out.
