In one of the closest Grand Finals in TRL History, Sarah's Team scored on the last play of the game to seal a 6-5 victory. It was a fantastic season for Sarah's Team who improved out of sight on their efforts at Mt Gravatt the competition before. In terms of Dump'n Burn, they were unlucky to go down. They are arguably the most dangerous attacking side in the Graceville competition and will take a lot of confidence from their efforts this season. The 'Chops finished on top of the ladder after all regular fixtures but ran out of steam in the last two weeks of competition. They still finish 3rd as they finished higher on the ladder than the other semi-finalist, Shocking. They should feel proud to have been such a force this season but there is plenty of unfinished business there. Shocking, had an up and down season. They were fairly ordinary in the first few rounds of competition but came home strongly over the back half of the regular season. They ended up going down to eventual winners Sarah's team in the semi but they continue to be a powerful force in the Graceville competition. When it came to the Soup Nazis and Dropbears play-off for 5th in week 10, one knew this was always going to be a close game. These two sides have been battling it out for years and the Nazis got one over their vastly improved opposition this time around. Both sides just need a little bit more luck to make the next step into the finals. It was the first season for the Touchables and Dropkicks. Both sides struggle a bit early but by week 7, they had begun to hit their straps and I feel significant improvement will follow for these sides in future seasons.
Mens 1
Glebe DR - the legend keeps rolling. Two in a row and counting. These guys have slugged it out under different names over the last few years including the North Sydney Bears, Balmain Tigers and perhaps most famously, Team Sangribeer. They have won 7 Premierships in TRL now and would be pressing their case for immortality. They are a much older, slower team than the early years but still have the guile and wilyness to outgun their younger rivals. Congratulations on a tremendous season. For the Stingrays, it was also a season to remember. This was a very closely fought competition and they did extremely well to make it through to the Grand Final. The Stingers play with a level of intensity rarely matched in TRL. They are a real threat to Glebe DR's dominance of the Graceville competition and no doubt will look to rekindle their rivalry in a coming season. They have plenty of great ball players and a very strong defensive unit. The B Sharps made the Finals but were overall, a little disappointing this season. They performed so well in the Summer and Autumn Seasons and for them not to make the GF was a shock. However, some of the boys will be battling it out on Wednesday in the Pamuks and still have a chance to take home some silverware. The Brohmans really improved over the back half of the season. They are turning into a TRL powerhouse and from all reports will be around for a few more seasons yet to chase the frontrunners in Glebe DR. As for Hard'n Often, they won Div 2 last season but didn't quite make the step up. They were competitive but probably lacked the firepower to challenge the big guns...a similar story could be said for the Scorpions who ran out of puff towards the end of the season. They started off with a blaze of glory winning their first 4 games of the season (including grading) but seemed to lose their winning way towards the back end. Still, they should take some positives away from their opening half of the season where they showed they can compete with anyone on their day.
Mens 2
The Cedar Boys have finally done it....after years of toil, angst and nail biting losses, they have conquered all in Div 2 to take out the trophy. Previously under the name of "Ethnic Warriors" these guys have mellowed in the senior years. However, they can still fire up for the big games and whilst missing a few of their stars for the final, came over the top of a spirited Sticky Feet. Well Done! The 'Feet had a great season and were unlucky to go down to the Cedar Boys but they are a Div 1 side in the making. Great defence and ample attacking potential makes them a particularly formidable side....when it comes to the Steamers, they seem to make a lot of semi-finals but have battled to go to the next step. They have signed up for another season and will be looking to make ammends this time around. The Gallopers have so much potential. You see them play and wonder why they sometimes go down in games. A bit more discipline in defence and some adjusted tactics could see them become a Div 1 side shortly. Not a lot needs to go right for results to turn on their head. Fingerbang had a good season. Whilst they did not make the finals, they were extremely competitive in a lot of games and had they turned some of their draws into wins, it could have been a very different season. The Cakes were more competitive in Div 2 this season but struggled for consistency in their playing roster. They made the GF in Div 2 back a few seasons ago and it is baffling as to why they weren't pushing for those kinds of results this season...but the potential is certainly there.
