This season had a very similar look and feel to last season. The PIGS faced the Tiger XI in the Grand Final for the second consecutive season. This time around, the PIGS were far too good for their opponents and they capped off a wonderful season going through undefeated. The Tiger XI have a lot to be proud of as no other team got near them...but they would be fuming at their inability to match the attack of the PIGS and not doubt Tucky (captain of the Tiger XI) will be devising a new attacking structure as both teams return next season. Rudd House were arguably the most dangerous team in the whole competition on their day but the school holiday break did not help their cause. These guys are coming back again next year and they will no doubt be a difficult proposition for their rivals. Boats and Hoes were new to TRL and initially dominated second division before moving up into first division. They won their fair share of games in Div 1 and did well to make it to the semi-finals. They should be proud of their first up efforts. Ramrod lost 3 games by one try, drew a game and won a game. They should have been in the semis! They were incredibly unlucky and will no doubt be back bigger and better next time. The Fevola Experience mirrored their namesake's AFL season. They started off with plenty of positives winning their first 4 games (same as the Lions). However, they lost their next 6 before winning in week 11. They are clearly good enough to be playing in Division 1 but they will need to get a more consistent side to develop the kinds of combinations needed to challenge the top sides.
Mens 2
The Pamuks went through the regular season undefeated. With the kind of form they showed from weeks 3-11, one wonders whether there was a bit of foxing going on in the grading rounds. These guys will definitely go up a division in future seasons because they are a first class side. They have great defence, plenty of speed and a phenomenal kicking game. They were however, seriously challenged by Kobra Kai in the Grand Final. It was a fantastic second half that was played at a ferocious intensity. For their first season, the 'Kai can be extremely happy with their performance. They probably need to improve their kicking game and last tackle tactics to go to the next level. However, their defence is rock solid. Dyer was looking pretty dangerous leading into the finals and one got the feeling they were going to go all the way after a few impressive wins in the leadup. However, they stumbled in the semi-finals. Dyer are a Div 1 side on their day and whilst they would be happy with their finals making season performance, they would fancy their chances of going a lot further next season. The Roots improved out of sight on their first season. They recruited a few players and that together with a season of TRL under their belts, made for a potent TRL team. They made the semis and gave the Pamuks a good scare in the semi-finals. Great season. For the Flushers, they improved a fair bit as the season went on and no one can dispute that their jerseys were simply unmatched. What a concept - to bring the "Crushers" back that it is.....hats off to what looked like a very enjoyable season for them. Bobby's Team was full of potential but their defence was a bit loose at times. They could easily be playing in Div 1 but struggled with putting a consistent side on the paddock week in week out.
Mixed
The Offenders dominated this competition with their ledger reading 11 wins, 0 losses. They probably saved their best game to last beating the Untouchables 8-4 in the Grand Final. It was a fantastic season that had plenty of highlights and they are starting to become one of the best teams in TRL. They are also a fun loving team that don't mind giving each a bit of stick which is always good to see. Well done! For the Untouchables, it was their first Grand Final. They played quite well in the Grand Final but it just so happened they came up against a red hot Offenders lineup whose 'offensive' prowess was on complete show. The Untouchables though had a great season and cleaned up a lot of teams with big wins. They have come a long way from the days when we used to cheer about the odd "lose by 1 try" bonus point. These days, anything short of a Grand Final win is pretty much a disappointment for them. Full credit to the team on developing themselves into a clinical TRL machine. Goose Step could have easily won this competition on their day. They probably saved their worst game for the semi-final but all in all, they should be happy with their improvement on their previous season. The Red Backs too, have a lot to be happy about. They pushed the Offenders in the semi-final in what was a very tight and firey affair. Hopefully, they can build on their season and really push for the crown next time around. White Line Fever improved out of sight. If only they had showcased their abilities earlier on in the season. I think they could have done some real damage had they made the top 4. It was a fantastic end to their season with them winning 3 out of their last 4 games. They also take out the Wildcard prize for having won by the biggest margin (+11). This entitles them to $100 off next season. The 'Doos were a vastly improved outfit to last season's cellar dwellers. This was a much tougher competition than last season and they pushed all of the top teams. Big Red Car Reick was an inspiration. One of the tallest and biggest TRL 5/8s he controlled the team really well. They were probably better than their 6th placing suggested. Moore Park really came of age over the back end of the season. They lost their first 9 games but won their last 2...and you know what they say, "you are only as good as your last game". They return next season under a new name: Dirty Dozen, and I am expecting some big things from them. The Dream Team were a great group to deal with always playing in tremendous spirit. They can score tries from anywhere but it was their defence that often let them down. It might sound simple but if they can work on that, they will turn results on their head.
