Mens 1

  1. Banangoes Gold
  2. Vandamage
  3. Prestige Worldwide
  4. Newtown Jets
  5. Wolfpack
  6. Kiwi Ninjas
  7. Banangoes Blue

The GF between the 'Gold and Vandamage was always going to be a huge game. Vandamage had knocked off the 'Gold the previous week in the Champions' League Semi-Final by one try. The game started at a rapid pace and it did not let up until the last play of the game. This time around, the Banangoes Gold were too strong and ran out victors 6-3. They are a top notch side and one of the best in Brisbane. They will be back in the Summer to defend their crown.

Prestige Worldwide and the Wolfpack were very dangerous at times throughout and whilst they did not have the consistency of the top 2 teams, both challenged these teams when they met during the season. In particular, Prestige Worldwide nearly knocked off Vandamage during the Semi-Final.

For the Ninjas, they battled admirably against some of the best sides in TRL. They didn't have the strikepower to match them but full credit to the way they slugged it out.

Mens 2

  1. Alf's Dundgeon Kids
  2. Cougar Bait
  3. Underachievers
  4. Clean Pair of Heels
  5. Langford's Team
  6. Cherry Popper
  7. Touchformers
  8. MDFL

This was a competition dominated by the top 4 teams. All 4 could have easily played in Division 1 and would no doubt be figuring in that mix for future seasons. In the end, the 'Kids capped off a memorable season pipping Cougar Bait in a tense Grand Final affair. For Cougar Bait, it was another heartbreaking loss but they have been one of the most consistent, if not the most consistent, Sunday afternoon TRL team for many years.

Clean Pair of Heels were unlucky not to be in the Grand Final and they had a very strong season...and as for the Underachievers, they again were solid throughout. The Touchformers were also a fair bit better than their 7th placing suggests and they have come a long way as a side since the early days where they battled down in Division 4.

Mens 3

  1. Gabbos
  2. K Hunts
  3. Bread'n Butter
  4. Geckos
  5. Mint
  6. Beer Tits Footy
  7. Terrace Touch
  8. Kiwi Ninjas
  9. Where has Quinn Gone?

This was a fascinating Division with little separating the 9 teams. The Gabbos moved up after a few weeks along with the Geckos, from Division 4 and both teams faired extremely well. The Gabbos in fact, edged past their longterm rivals, the K Hunts, in the Grand Final. Each season I mention that they have improved on the last one but it really came together for these guys over the back half of this season. To knock off the K Hunts was a huge effort considering that same team towelled them up 10-1 in the Div 4 Grand Final the previous season.

Bread'n Butter were the underacheivers in this division and with a bit more luck, could have been playing and succeeding in a much higher grade. The Geckos, Mint and Beer Tits Footy were all very evenly matched sides and had their fair share of success through the season. The standout performer of the bottom 3 was probably Terrace Touch who started very slowly but came good over the final month of competition. For the Ninjas, they were always one or two silly passes away from a win. Nearly every game they lost was by a margin of 3 tries or less. They have what it takes to be a real force in seasons to come.

Mens 4

  1. Cross Kicks
  2. Mighty Beags
  3. Try-Hards
  4. Rosa Rocket
  5. Financial Ferrets
  6. Boos and Pals
  7. Nummies
  8. Footlongs

The Grand Final was an extremely close affair. In the end, the Cross Kicks got up. It was a great effort from the boys from Kings. The 'Beags came from 4th to make the Grand Final but like the Parramatta Eels of '09, the steamtrain of emotion and momentum, was brought to a halt dramatically when the final hooter went. Still a fantastic effort for their first ever season of TRL.

Like the Beags, the Try-Hards were experiencing TRL for the first time and they were looking unstoppable leading into the Finals. Unfortunately, they went down in their semi-final but should be proud of their efforts considering not one of their players had played TRL before this season. The 'Rocket had arguably their best season to date. They had plenty of razzle dazzle this season and complemented it with sound defence. Big Gene Stewart concentrated more on being a ball playing forward this season as opposed to a hitman, and the results naturally flowed. They'll get that elusive GF win!

For the 'Ferrets, it was a solid start to their TRL career. They didn't win any awards but they were competitive throughout and I expect them to build on their efforts. The same could be said for the Footlongs who battled in the opening exchanges before coming home with a bit of momentum in the final stages. For the Nummies and Boos and Pals, one word is all they need to hear - consistency. If they can get a regular team with plenty of subs, they will again be right up there in the thick of finals action.

Mixed 1

  1. Balls Deep
  2. Benz Ballz
  3. After Dark
  4. Rock Lobsters
  5. Scorgasms
  6. HCF
  7. Warriors
  8. Adelaide Rams

This competition was arguably the number 1 Mixed competition in Brisbane. TRL glamour clubs - the 'Ballz and the 'Deep - were a rung or two above the rest and it was no surprise they faced off in week 11 for the Grand Final. It was a tense and highly skilled affair. In the end, Balls Deep ran out victors but there were plenty of twists and turns. The same two teams faced off against one another last season and on that occasion, Benz Ballz (under the name of Gary's Gooches) won. They are certianly developing a rivalry.

After Dark weren't too far off the pace and were very competitive throughout the season. The same can be said for the Rock Lobsters and Scorgasms who both boast arguably the most skilfull female contingent in the competition.

HCF, Warriors and Adelaide Rams all struggled at times when they played the top 5 teams but in any other competition, they would have been towards the top. This simply was a very high standard of competition.

Mixed 2

  1. Touch This
  2. Pocket Rockets
  3. Touched by an Uncle
  4. Green Apples
  5. Creepers
  6. Lampshade
  7. BOB
  8. Kents

Touch This, fresh from winning the Champions' League came into this game with a fair bit of confidence and probably wondering why they were playing in this Grand Final and not against a Balls Deep or Benz Balls up a Division. What a shock they got. The Pocket Rockets put a few fireworks right up Touch This and if a a few passes had stuck, probably could have won this one. In the end, Touch This ran out victors but they got one hell of a scare.

Touched by an Uncle had a great season. Their name would suggest that the team carries a bit of emotional baggage but they are arguably one of the best teams to reff and deal with. Their on-field spirit is great for the game and they epitomise what Sunday afternoon TRL is all about. Along with Green Apples, they were probably a rung or two below the top 2 teams but both did remarkably well to knock off sides such as the Creepers and 'Lampshade on a weekly basis.

The Creepers were the underachievers of this division. In my opinion, they should have been in the Grand Final on playing and miscellaneous talent alone. Boasting 5 TRL referees and some skilfull female players, they should have been working the game to their advantage. Instead, they were up and down like a yo-yo. They have some fanatical players including Jimmy Collins who incidentally records all of the match statistics for the Creepers including tries, try-assists, dominant touches and his personal favourite, yes-no calls. He will no doubt present a powerpoint analysis to the team at their Mad Monday Festivities.

Teaspoon Lampshade, BOB and the Kents all had patches of success throughout the season but lacked the firepower to really push for finals glory.

Mixed 3

  1. Lucy's Heroes
  2. Tries R Us
  3. Underdogs
  4. Quotals
  5. Clint's Team
  6. Stadgepool

The Grand Final between the top 2 sides always promised to be a cracker and they didn't disappoint. In the end, Lucy's Heroes were victorious and whilst it was a 4-0 scoreline, the game was a lot closer than that. Darren had the troops fired up but Tries R Us probably turned in one of their less polished performances. It was a disappointing end for what really was a fantastic season overall. Lucy's Heroes were always going to do well in Division 3. They probably didn't quite have what it took to play Division 2 at the start of the season but by season's end, they looked a class above most of their Div 3 rivals. Well done on a great season!

The Underdogs had another stellar season. That Grand Final victory still eludes them but they are becoming very consistent. For the Quotals, these guys had a lot of firepower but were a bit up and down during the season. For Clint's Team and Stadgepool, while neither team won too many awards, they played with great spirit and towards the end of the season, with a fair bit of tactical nous. I think both will improve significantly in future seasons.
